Delivery, Shipping & Customs

We can arrange delivery of your Kinnaird Steel order anywhere in Scotland or worldwide. Our aim is to make delivery straightforward and competitive, so we will normally obtain a suitable transport quotation and pass on the cost at a reasonable rate, including a modest charge where appropriate for arranging, administering or managing the shipment. All delivery charges and any applicable customs or documentation charges will be agreed with you before your order is dispatched.

Standard Shipping Terms

1. Delivery arrangements

We can arrange delivery on your behalf or, where you prefer, you can nominate your own carrier. Where we arrange delivery, we will select a suitable carrier based on the size, weight, destination and requirements of the order. Delivery charges will be quoted separately unless a delivered price has been expressly agreed.

2. UK deliveries

For deliveries within the UK, we will normally arrange pallet or haulage transport and provide a delivery quotation before dispatch. Delivery charges are payable in advance together with the goods, unless we have agreed different payment terms with you in writing.

Our delivery quotation may include the carrier’s charge together with a reasonable charge for arranging and administering the delivery.

3. Delivery quotations

Delivery quotations are based on the information available to us at the time and may be subject to carrier availability and confirmation. If the carrier subsequently identifies additional charges arising from circumstances outside our control, including waiting time, failed or attempted delivery, re-delivery, storage, restricted access, difficult access, special equipment, changes to the delivery address or inaccurate delivery information, these costs may be charged to the customer.

Where a material additional charge arises before dispatch, we will normally contact you for approval before proceeding.

4. Delivery address and access

When placing an order, you must provide an accurate delivery address and tell us about any relevant access restrictions or delivery requirements. You are responsible for ensuring that the delivery location is suitable for the vehicle and method of delivery agreed.

Unless specifically agreed otherwise, delivery is to the stated delivery address and does not include specialist positioning, carrying, stacking, installation or handling of the goods beyond normal unloading by the carrier.

5. Receiving your delivery

Someone authorised to receive the goods should be available at the agreed delivery address. If delivery cannot be completed because nobody is available, access is unsuitable, the address is incorrect or the carrier is otherwise unable to deliver for reasons attributable to the customer, any resulting re-delivery, storage, waiting or other charges may be charged to the customer.

Customers should check the goods and packaging on delivery and note any visible damage or shortage with the carrier where possible.

6. Delivery times

We will provide an estimated delivery date or delivery window where this is available. Delivery dates are estimates rather than guaranteed dates unless we have expressly agreed a guaranteed delivery date in writing.

We are not responsible for delays caused by carriers, traffic, weather, industrial action, customs authorities, border controls, shortages of transport capacity or other circumstances outside our reasonable control.

7. International deliveries

We can arrange international transport and export documentation where required. The delivery method, freight charge and applicable delivery terms will be agreed with you before dispatch.

Unless otherwise expressly agreed in writing, international orders will be supplied on terms that leave responsibility for import clearance, import duties, VAT and other taxes, destination charges and local regulatory requirements with the customer.

Where appropriate, we will use an applicable Incoterm such as FCA or DAP and state this on the quotation or sales documentation. We will not accept responsibility for import duties, taxes or customs clearance in the destination country unless this has been specifically agreed and priced as part of the order.

8. Customs and documentation

We will provide the export and commercial documentation that we have agreed to provide for the shipment. We can also assist with customs documentation and liaise with carriers or freight forwarders where appropriate.

Where additional customs, certification, brokerage or documentation work is required beyond our normal export documentation, we may charge a reasonable administration or documentation fee. Any third-party customs, brokerage, inspection, storage or other charges will be payable by the customer unless expressly included in our quotation.

The customer is responsible for providing accurate information needed for customs clearance, including the delivery address, importer details and any information or documents required in the destination country.

9. Freight arranged by the customer

If you arrange your own carrier, the goods will normally be made available for collection from our premises at the agreed time. Unless otherwise agreed, responsibility for transport arrangements, transport costs and the goods in transit will pass to you or your nominated carrier from collection in accordance with the agreed delivery terms.

10. Changes after a delivery has been arranged

If you ask us to change the delivery address, delivery date, quantity, vehicle requirements or other arrangements after transport has been booked, we may charge any resulting carrier costs together with a reasonable administration charge.

11. Payment and dispatch

Unless otherwise agreed in writing, goods and delivery charges must be paid in full before dispatch. We reserve the right to delay dispatch until payment and all required delivery information have been received.

12. Our approach to delivery charges

We aim to keep delivery competitive and transparent. Where possible, we will use efficient transport options and obtain competitive rates, but our responsibility is to arrange a suitable delivery service rather than to guarantee the lowest available freight price. Delivery charges quoted by Kinnaird Steel are therefore based on the transport and administration costs reasonably expected for the order and may include a modest handling or administration element.

These terms should be read together with our general Terms and Conditions. Where a quotation, order confirmation or agreed sales contract contains specific delivery terms that differ from these standard terms, the specific agreed terms will apply.
